New Compound Propophenol

Propophenol

「Propophenol is a new dietary supplement containing polyphenol enriched with propolis flavonoids and anthocyanin from Miyazaki Prefecture Ayamurasaki (purple sweet potatoes) and blueberries.

Propophenol is produced using the finest propolis from Minas Gerais, Brazil. We employ an exclusive water-alcohol extraction process in which propolis is dissolved in a mix of water and alcohol. The propolis extracted by this process contains high levels of flavonoids, terpene and peptide. The former two elements can be extracted in the alcohol extraction process and the latter by the water extraction process. Blending this high-quality concentrated propolis with various kinds of anthocyanin further enhances the effect of polyphenol.

Development of Propophenol

Research and Development Department

Our Research and Development Department has worked to develop propolis products since the establishment of Nihon Biofoods. They look to learn things like which products propolis is most appropriate in, what materials might work synergistically to display the full effects of propolis, and what materials from our company's home in Southern Kyushu might be useful.

Research of Materials to Enhance the Effect of Propolis

Propolis

Flavonoids are a primary component of propolis, and there is a general tendency of consider them as the source of its effects. However, there are hundreds of kinds of flavonoids in propolis, and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), like flavonoids a kind of polyphenol, is also an active component of propolis. The combination of these substances typically found in plants can be thought to enhance the effect of propolis. This is why for approximately the past five years five of our research staff searched all over Southern Kyushu for materials that include polyphenol, works well with propolis.

Two Materials We Chose

Purple sweet potatoes from Miyazaki Prefecture and blueberries from Kagoshima Prefecture

The research staff finally found two materials from Southern Kyushu – blueberries from Kagoshima Prefecture and purple sweet potatoes from Miyazaki Prefecture. Both materials not only display the effects of abundant anthocyanin, but also provide enhanced benefits when used together due to the various types of anthocyanin they contain. These materials work quite well with propolis since they include plenty of chlorogenic acid (caffeoylquinic acid) which has a similar structure and effect to caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE).

In this way we selected the materials to produce Propolis Liquid with anthocyanin compounds. We finally succeeded in producing Propophenol through our exclusive process after trying countless production methods and learning from our mistakes.

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the National Agricultural Research Center for Kyushu Okinawa Region founded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and to the Miyazaki JA Food Research & Development Inc. for their cooperation in the development of Propophenol.
